Fairmount Veterinary Specialists (FVS) was founded by Dr. Forrest Cummings, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM) in January of 2025. At FVS we are committed to enhancing your pet's health through our specialized internal medicine services. Our team of experienced veterinary professionals is dedicated to accurately diagnosing and effectively treating complex medical conditions, ensuring that your pets receive exceptional care. We recognize that pets are cherished members of your family, and we aim to provide a supportive and professional environment for both pets and their owners.

At Fairmount Veterinary Specialists, we offer comprehensive Internal Medicine consultations, advanced diagnostics and procedures, and medical management for dogs and cats. We work together with your Primary Care Veterinarian to provide your pet with personalized and compassionate veterinary services. Meet the Team
Veterinarian
Dr. Forrest Cummings, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM)
Dr. Cummings graduated from University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science in 2000. After graduating from Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005, he completed an internship at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Cummings successfully completed his residency at Metropolitan Veterinary Specialists in 2011.
Dr. Cummings provides Continuing Education to local and regional Veterinarians, Medical Records Review (Teleconsulting) for veterinarians
When not working, he enjoys running, reading, gardening, and watching basketball. He and his wife have three children, as well as two dogs and two cats.
Veterinary Assistant
Katie Knisely
Katie graduated with a Bachelor's degree in neuroscience in 2018. She spent several years working in conservation education before joining the field of veterinary medicine in 2022.
Since then she has discovered a passion for veterinary internal medicine and especially enjoys working with patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Her dedication to helping pet owners during stressful times truly shines, as she provides support and compassion when it's needed most.
Outside of work, she enjoys hiking and camping with her fiancé, and spending time with their dog and two cats.
